Would Disney's A Christmas Carol be ok for this child to see?
My husband and I would like to take our 4 year old daughter to see Disney’s A Christmas Carol. I’ve heard all over that it’s really scary for little kids, but I don’t know, I think that our daughter would be okay with it. Star Wars doesn’t even phase her - she loves watching it (yes, her mommy - me - is a Star Wars geek) she thinks that Darth Vader and all of the other freaky things on there are the coolest thing since ice cream and it doesn’t phase her in the least - not even the Emperor in the oldest ones and he scares ME. Jumangi doesn’t phase her - she loves that movie. Ghost Busters the movie doesn’t bother her (I can’t watch that one because it’s scary for me, but my husband loves it) and the Scooby Doo movies (not the cartoons, but the newer real life movies) she just loves (they freak me out though). Anyways, for a 4 year old kid whom those movies doesn’t bother, do you think that she would be okay with A Christmas Carol (the 3D one?)
I had her watch the preview just now - she really liked it - I asked her if she thought it was scary and she said "no mommy, that’s really cool". I dunno, what do ya’ll think?
CZYSZCZO- lol! I watched Jeepers Creepers 7 years ago and I STILL can’t drive home at night without being a little freaked out! hahaha!

If she has already seen Star Wars then why a Disney’s A Christmas Carol be scary?

I think she’d be fine if you warn her its gonna be a little bit scary.

My 5 year old has seen all the movies you mentioned and loves them but was still frightened by a Christmas Carol……it’s got some pretty intense scenes.

No, because Disney has the plan to take over the World. The morals they feed kids on an hourly basis is absolutely disgusting.

How about showing her the trailer and seeing what she thinks? My 4 year old decided very quickly that the trailer was, ‘too creepy’ and that she didn’t want to see it. The whole story is a bit spooky… being visited by ghosts isn’t a scene I’d like in my daughter’s dreams.
It would vary from each child I expect, but try the trailer and see what response you get. I’ll dig out a link for you…

It’s up to you to see whether you think she can handle it.
Christmas Carol has images of a dead man in a coffin with a rather realistic cold corpse effect. Then we see a ghost that sustains an injury where he rips his jaw off. It’s still cartoonish, but it’s done rather realistically (reminded me of the Grudge scene where a character has her jaw ripped off). Scary and threatening looking huge black horses with red eyes chase Scrooge at some point, which is probably the less scary bit.
I strongly recommend checking out the parental content advisory on imdb.com. it’s very precise and allows each parent to learn of very specific aspects and decide whether or not their child can see it.
Here’s the christmas carol one:

EDIT: Jeepers Creepers is a very very very bad film. I’m a horror movie fan. I would literally watch anything, but that was bad. Personally I would never let a kid watch a horror film. It’s not about whether he can handle it or not. It’s about not making him/her used to it. truth is the more they watch things like that, the easier they handle it. Question is : do we really want to see our 8 year old kids watching Saw where people hack each other to pieces and NOT think it’s scary? Now THAT would freak me out.

My 3yo & 5yo wouldn’t be scared by it, but i don’t know your daughter. my kids watch ghost whisperer and medium and don’t get scared.

My boy who is 8 watched Jeepers Creepers and got really really scared but he got over it.

There is another little boy that I know of that watches Freddie Kurger and loves it.

I would give it a chance. But remember she is pretty young to comprehend that movie. Where Star Ways has a lot of exicting parts so you can not compare star wars and Christmas Carol

But if she is the prone to having night mares night after night or is scared of the dark you might want to think twice but this does not seem to be the case with your child.

Either way you are not doing the child any harm so I would go see it.

Oh, yeah, that person who told you to watch the trailer had a great idea.

Good Luck

One of my friends went to see the movie, and she said that she would not take her young children to see it- it is not the older versions of Christmas Carol, it is very scary. It is up to you , but I think that a 4 yr. old should not see it. This person takes her young kids to see most movies , so it actually surprised me that she said it.

I just took my 4 year old daughter to see it yesterday, she was scared at a few parts but over all she liked it. We saw it in 3D as well, that gave me a headache though!

No. I wouldn’t take my 6 year old grandson to see it.

The special effects and the digital 3D and the Performance Capture technology are all AMAZING! But Dickens never intended this to be a children’s story and the images are certainly alarming PLUS in 3D they jump right out in your face.

If you like the story (and a lot of people are bored by it because they’ve seen/read it so many times), then you and your husband should definitely go and see the digital 3D version.

Leave the kiddies at home however, unless you want them crying in the bed with you for several nights afterward.

Well, I pretty much said in my reviews that it is not for kids. In fact, I would say no one under than 10 should see it, and that 10 or 11 year old should be fairly mature. The previews are nothing compared to the real film. There are plenty of intense, dark, and frightening scenes in this film. Some of it even freaked me out a little bit! Marley was intense. The ghost of Christmas Present was intense at the end. And the ghost of Christmas Future was pretty intense too, but not really the past. The film does stick to the novel pretty darn well though. Of course, somethings were added to it for effects, etc. Also, there are some sad scenes in the film as well. You have to take the PG rating seriously, and this film is well deserving of it. I don’t think a 4 year old could handle this film, especially in 3D. Spirits coming at you, a giant rat, Marley’s jaw getting dislodged, chains flying at you, spirits moaning, falling through the sky at who knows how fast, and a whip coming at you. All pretty intense stuff. I still think 2D (non 3D format) would still be scary for young ones. But I definitely recommend for older audiences. I think anyone above 9 would enjoy it. It is a thrill ride, and visually stunning! Just leave the little ones at home. I hope I helped!

I wouldn’t some parts get very graphic, it’s not about the "scariness" it was about the graphics
